Director of acclaimed documentary “TILT: The Battle to Save Pinball” to speak at Pacific Pinball Expo
Alameda, CA, August 29, 2007. Greg Maletic, San Francisco-based director of the acclaimed documentary “TILT: The Battle to Save Pinball” will speak at the 2007 Pacific Pinball Expo, detailing both the story behind the making of the film and his insights into the remarkable tale the film recounts: that of the last pinball machine built by the world’s largest pinball manufacturer, Williams Electronic Games, back in 1999.
Showcased in pre-release form at the 2006 San Francisco Documentary Festival and a special screening held in 2007 by the Austin Film Festival, TILT is a film that, despite its title, is not just for pinball fanatics. “TILT tells a universal story, one that any follower of technology, design, or business should find fascinating,” says Maletic. “Seen from the perspective of the designers that created Pinball 2000, TILT is a story about personality and passion, of bold success followed by stunning failure.”
In the wake of recent arcade-oriented documentaries like The King of Kong that focus on game players, TILT tells the flip-side of that story, about the game designers and the remarkable machines they build. “The film documents a piece of our history,” says Maletic. “Pinball is in many ways a dying art form, and in addition to chronicling the touching—and heartbreaking—story of the loss of the world’s greatest pinball manufacturer, TILT details the technical and artistic challenges involved in building a modern pinball machine like nothing before it.”
Maletic will be presenting from 5:00 to 6:00pm on Saturday October 6th and 1:00 to 2:00pm on Sunday October 7th at the Marin Civic Center Exhibition Hall, 10 Avenue of the Flags, Marin County, California. As a bonus, the TILT DVD—featuring the documentary and numerous extended interviews with legends of the pinball industry—and its movie poster will be available for sale in limited quantities to Pacific Pinball Expo attendees, in advance of the general audience release of the DVD in Fall 2007.

"You don't have to be a fan of pinball to enjoy Greg Maletic's storytelling in TILT: The Battle to Save Pinball; I walked away with an insider's look at the art, craft and risky business of pinball."
–Kelly Williams, Head Programmer, Austin Film Festival
"...a fantastic documentary that appeals to both pinball and video game players alike. Even appealing to anyone that is interested in business, with it’s in-depth look at the workings of both the pinball and arcade industry...don’t make the foolish decision of passing over TILT."
